Uttar Pradesh · 2026

Where the jobs are, and who will fill them

About 29 lakh jobs open in Uttar Pradesh in 2026, and about 49 lakh people are ready to take work. Many openings are in building, factory, water and power trades that few people have trained for, while teaching, office and shop jobs have far more applicants than places. The gap is skills, not jobs.

Gorakhpur works we mapped

67,500

site workers needed

788 roads, water, canal and building works are running in Gorakhpur in 2026; we know which trades each one needs.

How we counted
  • People working today: national labour survey 2023-24 share of UP workers by industry × UP population (about 9.5 crore), split into jobs by each job's share; manufacturing and job shares are estimates where no state figure exists.
  • Self-employed work (own farm, own shop, own craft) is shown but not counted as hiring.
  • Projects we have mapped: Gorakhpur works running in 2026 (workers worked out from the work left on each) and our register of 69 big state projects.
  • New factories and services: investment-summit projects counted at 7–20% of the jobs claimed, as actually staffed in 2026; named projects already in our register are taken out so nothing is counted twice.
  • Housing, tap water, rooftop solar and station works: worked out from 2026 build rates. Government recruitment: posts announced for 2025–26.
  • Normal hiring: people who leave each year (2.5% of wage jobs) replaced, plus part of each industry's recent growth.
  • People ready to work: job seekers (about 29 lakh) and young people starting work this year (about 12 lakh) by schooling, plus about 8 lakh people leaving farm work.
  • Pay: UP minimum wages from April 2026 and survey earnings; bands per job are estimates.

Numbers are estimates shown as ranges: a planning picture for the state, not a count of vacancies.
